Created in 1989, the National Park of Guadeloupe features primary rainforest and tropical animals within the Parc des Mamelles. Originally a nature reserve for raccoons, the park is now a unique habitat that has attracted the interest of countless environmental experts. A glance beyond the marked paths will reveal unusual wild animal species that inhabit the Caribbean and Latin America regions.
Get acquainted with the forest from above. Suspended walkways allow you to wander through the canopy -- the uppermost level of the tropical forest -- from one tree to the next at least 45 feet above the ground. You will also enjoy a spectacular view of Pigeon Island -- the Cousteau Reserve.
Next, drive to the trailhead for a walk in the dense tropical forest to the site of Cascade aux Ecrevisses (Crayfish Waterfall) nestled in its lush surroundings.
