The Caroni Nature Sanctuary is a mangrove swamp covering an area of 40 square miles on Trinidad's northwest coast.
After a 30-minute drive from Port of Spain, board a large flat-bottomed boat and slowly travel along the beautiful, peaceful waterways and lagoons, admiring the bizarre beauty of the landscape and a variety of birds and other wildlife. The most astounding among these birds is the scarlet ibis -- a large, bright-red bird that feeds and nests here. This area is world-renowned among ornithologists, as it allows the observer to see this rare, protected bird with little effort.
After the relaxing boat ride, return to the landing and transfer back to Port of Spain.
Notes:
Minimum age is 5 years. Maximum weight is 280 lbs. Participants must be able to climb into and out of the flat-bottom boat.
