This tour combines the highlights of Trinidad's capital city with a visit to the cool, peaceful setting of the Botanic Gardens and the serene atmosphere of the Mount St Benedict Monastery.
During a panoramic drive, you will pass seven magnificent mansions overlooking the glorious Queen's Park Savannah -- the city's largest park. Your guide will also point out other architectural and historic monuments.
At the Botanic Gardens, situated next to the President's House, take a short stroll in the shade of a cool stand of exotic trees and tropical flowers.
The Lady Young Lookout offers a fantastic panoramic view back to Port of Spain.
Spiritual, healing, beautiful -- these are just a few words that come to mind at the Mount St Benedict Monastery, 800 feet above sea level. Wander through the picturesque monastery founded in 1912 and into the chapel -- a glimpse of cultural and historical perspective surrounding the monks who have lived, for decades, a life of quiet contemplation.
Relax over tea in a grotto-like atmosphere, most likely in the company of various tropical garden birds. The small cottage-industry shop sells various religious and other items, including jams, jellies and yogurts made by the monks.
Notes:
Four-seater, pre-paid taxis are typically used; however, minibuses are used occasionally. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
