Looking for a scenic and relaxing nature tour by boat? Here's an opportunity to see herds of manatees, flocks of birds, and playful dolphins on a narrated scenic cruise through the Cocoa Beach Thousand Islands.
The Thousand Islands are a flood-tide delta deposit formed in the past by a breach in the barrier island by a strong storm surge. This natural occurrence created a maze of narrow trails and canals through the natural mangrove islands and hidden hammocks. The spectacular channels provide shelter to manatees, dolphins and a variety of coastal birds, including reddish egrets, wood stork, rosette spoonbill, brown and white pelican, bald eagle, nesting osprey, great blue heron, great snowy egrets, white ibises, crested caracara, peregrine falcon, brown-headed nuthatch, Bachman's sparrow, red-cockaded woodpecker, terns and coots.
Notes:
Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring a light jacket in the winter. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
