This scenic tour lets you get acquainted with Ocho Rios, a burgeoning town with spacious villas, low-key hotels, and multi-story resorts.
A panoramic drive takes you through Fern Gully Gorge, where nature produces the most magnificent, vibrant green trees. Digest the coolness of this three-mile stretch of roadway, running south of the town of Ocho Rios on the original course of an ancient riverbed. Fern Gully, which rises approximately 500 feet above sea level, is home to many species of ferns and tropical foliage.
The Konoko Falls & River Garden Museum features a Spanish-style building with a cut-stone courtyard fountain, three acres of lush tropical foliage, and rushing mountain streams. The artifacts in the museum date from the pre-Columbian era and trace the island's history to the present day. A guide will escort you through the garden, showing you an abundance of exotic flowers shaded by giant cedars and banyan trees. The footpaths allow easy access to all the special places in the garden.
Hunt for bargains in the gift shop, shop in the art gallery, or relax in the courtyard with a refreshing tropical drink.
A scenic drive along the coast leads to the quaint town of St Ann's Bay, once the Spanish capital of the island. Here, you will see a statue of Christopher Columbus, who 'discovered' Jamaica for the Europeans. After a short tour of the area, you will stop for shopping before returning to the ship.
