Make chocolate the way the Mayans did centuries ago.
Begin with a panoramic drive as your guide points out highlights as you gain an overview of the island.
Arriving at a cacao plantation, you'll learn how cacao trees are planted and cared for, as well as how the pods are harvested. See how cacao seeds are fermented and dried by natural sunlight. For some unusual and memorable fun, you will roast and grind seeds; then, make your own chocolate to take home.
While waiting for the chocolate bars to set, walk with your guide through the botanic gardens. Admire the Honduran mahogany, orchids, and tropical plants. Also growing here are coffee, herbs and spices and a variety of fruits. Taste some fruits and enjoy a delicious traditional lunch .
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
