Visit Roatán's west-side attractions, beginning with a half-hour drive to Arboretum Botanic Gardens -- the island's best-developed inland reserve. The walkways and paths are well maintained, with boardwalks in some places. Your naturalist guide will provide you with a myriad of details during an easy 50-minute walk along the jungle garden path. Stroll through forests of ferns, spices, orchids and flowering plants. Water and fresh fruit are offered at the rest area.
Your next stop is at the Roatán Butterfly & Bird Garden. Take time to appreciate a live exhibit of some of Honduras' most colorful butterflies. Learn about and observe the different stages of the butterfly life cycle as you are surrounded by a beautiful array of exotic plants, tropical fruit trees and birds. Take photos of the parrots, toucans and monkeys that are quite tame and will let you touch them.
At West End village, at a private location on the waterfront, you will browse in the stores along the coastline and enjoy a cup of Honduran coffee, lemonade or iced tea before you return to the pier.
