Board a purpose-built whale-watching boat at the beach and set off to search for graceful and entertaining cetaceans. Sometimes, whales are sighted close to Grand Turk; other times, the boat travels as far as Salt Cay and Great Sand Cay. An elevated flybridge offers the skipper a higher vantage point to increase the likelihood of wildlife sightings. Once whales are located, the boat will head out to where they are so you can observe them from a distance. The crew is always careful not to cut them off, startle them, or disrupt them. Enjoy a front-row seat to the greatest show on earth. Sometimes the whales approach the boat and hang around for a while.
Humpback whales are very acrobatic, often breaching high out of the water and then slapping the water as they come back down. Mother and calf encounters are the most endearing and captivating to watch from the boat.
Listen to the sound of whale-song through a hydrophone. The on-board whale expert answers all your questions.
Notes:
Minimum age is 6 years. Maximum weight is 300 lbs. You will visit the whales in their natural environment; whale sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Bottled water and rum punch are offered. You must walk 5-10 minutes along the beach to board the boat via a ladder. You may need to enter the water to board the vessel; wear aqua shoes, sandals or flip-flops. Out on the Atlantic Ocean in an open catamaran for three hours, you may get wet from waves splashing. Occasional rain squalls are possible. Bring a waterproof jacket/poncho. Not advisable for those prone to seasickness. Whale watching is seasonal, available only from mid-January to mid-April.
