Come experience the world-famous ruins of the walled city of Tulum.
Take a 45-minute ferry transfer to Playa del Carmen and a scenic one-hour, air-conditioned motorcoach ride to Tulum -- the only Mayan city built right on the coast overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Follow your guide through the ruins of dozens of restored temples, with mysterious hieroglyphic writings still visible today. Visit the Temple of the Frescos, famous for the detailed carved figures and original paints. Perched on the edge of the Caribbean, rising above all other ruins, El Castillo boasts a breathtaking view of the aqua-colored water below.
From Tulum, you will head to a local beach club where a tasty buffet lunch awaits you. Afterward, relax on the white-sand beach.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen (no other kind of sunscreen is allowed in the water), light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Plastic bottles are not allowed. If you wish to bring water, please bring it in a reusable container. There is a 10-minute walk each way between the parking lot and the entrance to the ruins. This tour involves considerable walking on uneven limestone and loose stones and climbing on uneven, rough surfaces. There is a government tax of US$5-8 on the use of video cameras at the ruins. No tripods and/or professional video cameras are allowed. Visitors cannot climb some of the ruins due to their fragile state. Guests who suffer from motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication for the ferry ride.
