Discover Cozumel's history on a panoramic drive and enter the mystic world of the Mayan civilization. The ancient ruins of San Gervasio offer a visual sensory experience that sharply contrasts with the olfactory and taste sensations you'll encounter at the Mayan Cacao Company.
A scenic drive brings you to the ruins of San Gervasio -- the largest and most important of the Maya settlements on the island of Cozumel. Follow your guide through the ruins, which served as a religious center, and learn about the Ixchel deity -- goddess of fertility and health. You'll see fragments of the temples and sculptures on this archaeological site and the ruins of nine buildings connected by three roads.
A scenic drive around the island showcases its many facets.
An interactive visit to the Mayan Cacao Company is your chance to learn about the history of chocolate, including the manufacturing process and a delicious tasting.
Notes:
Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Walking is required over uneven surfaces. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Bring insect repellent. Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Wear light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. There is a government tax of $8-10 USD on the use of video cameras at each site. Tripods and/or professional video cameras are not allowed. Flash photography is not allowed inside the ruins due to the delicate nature of the displays. Food cannot be brought into the ruins. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars.
