Board a four-wheel-drive vehicle at the pier and set out to explore the eastern and southern parts of Bonaire. Part of the trip will take place on paved streets, the remainder on dirt roads, which can be dusty or muddy.
You will leave Kralendjik, Bonaire's capital and travel through town in easterly direction. Your adventure then continues on dirt roads, bumpy at times heading along the wild east coast to explore the area of Yatu Batu with its colossal cactus, wild donkeys, iguanas and birds. Stop to take photos along the way.
Arriving at Lac Bay, watch windsurfers braving the trade winds in the warm shallow waters.
Your drive continues on paved roads, passing the Willemstoren Lighthouse -- Bonaire's oldest lighthouse -- en route to the slave huts and the salt mountains.
See the stone huts at the saltpans, and perhaps spot a few flamingos in the distance as your guide explains about salt production.
Just a little bit further on, you will pass through Belnem, which brings you back to town and the cruise ship pier.
