Head north on a panoramic drive to the railway station, where you'll find a Tjepper No. 5 locomotive under full steam. Listen to a safety briefing; then, board one of the three carriages for a ride on this heritage steam railway.
Hop off at the Cherry Tree Hill turntable, where you can participate in turning the locomotive. The engine then reconnects to the opposite end of the carriages for the return journey, with a two-whistle blow signaling the start of the downhill leg. Watch for incredible panoramic vistas of the island's north coast as you emerge from the mahogany woodlands.
The Manor House of St Nicholas Abbey awaits you on a working plantation set in park-like grounds. It's an architectural marvel -- one of only three Jacobean mansions remaining in the Western Hemisphere. See antiques and relics from the glory days of sugar production and step outside to appreciate that the house is surrounded by cane fields and a lush mahogany forest.
Visit the rum distillery, perched on the edge of a picturesque gully. Enjoy the cool Caribbean breeze and shade from pretty foliage as you learn about rum production. Taste a few award-winning rums here.
Meandering along the East Coast Road, take in the views of the rugged Atlantic coast and pause for photos at Morgan Lewis Windmill -- the last functioning windmill on the island.
