Bring your curiosity and your love for nature to gain a newfound appreciation for the tiny-mighty bee -- a magnificent creature whose world is complex, hierarchical, and highly intelligent. More than just an excursion, this is your chance to genuinely connect with nature and to be utterly enthralled with learning about the critical role bees play in everyday life.
You will head to Walkers Reserve -- a Barbados ecosystem that is conspicuously interdependent. Participate in the Bee Observation Experience for a visit to the apiary -- a first-of-its-kind feature in Barbados for cruise ship guests. Engage with the resident beekeeper, who delivers a short presentation on bee biology and ecology. Then, witness the fascinating world of bees through specially-designed observation hives. Participate in a honey extraction demonstration and taste the freshest honey ever. You'll come to understand the importance of bee conservation and how you can contribute to protecting these essential pollinators. Questions? Great -- the beekeeping team has the answers.
Notes:
Wear comfortable, light-colored clothing (bees are less attracted to light colors). Wear comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes.
