Take a ride through Antigua's countryside, rich in daily life, local villages and old churches -- all exemplifying the melting pot that is West Indian culture.
Your destination is Nelson's Dockyard, built in 1725 and the base for the English Naval squadron patrolling the West Indies. As you enter this historic site -- the only working Georgian dockyard remaining in the world -- meet your National Park guide. A short, informative walking tour through the Dockyard showcases its beautifully-restored buildings, detailed plaques, and many points of interest. Enjoy a refreshing rum or fruit punch along the way. After the tour, use your free time to explore the Dockyard, museum, art gallery, gift shop and boutiques.
Your tour continues to the Dow's Hill Interpretative Centre, where a fascinating 15-minute multimedia presentation traces the island's history from prehistoric times to the present day.
From the former Signal Station at Shirley Heights Lookout, take in the picture-perfect view of Nelson's Dockyard and English Harbour before a panoramic drive returns you to St John's.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
