Things To Do In Anchorage

TONY KNOWLES COASTAL TRAIL IN ANCHORAGE

The 18-kilometer Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is one of Alaska’s most popular thanks to its scenic views. The trail begins in downtown Anchorage at the west end of Second Avenue and hugs the shoreline past Elderberry Park and Westchester Lagoon. Many walk, run or rent a bike. Along the way you may find yourself sharing the trail with a moose, spot a bald eagle soaring above or a whale breaching along Cook Inlet.

KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK

Located three hours from Anchorage near Seward, the Kenai Fjords National Park is famous for tidewater glaciers that calve into the water and pristine beauty. One of the most visited spots is Exit Glacier, which has been rapidly retreating, and is part of the expansive Harding Icefield, which can receive over nine meters of snow each year.

This captivating museum brings Alaska's aviation history and its bush pilots to life. Planes include a 1929 Travel Air 6000 and a Douglas World Cruiser, a 1920s airplane that was used in an unsuccessful attempt to circumnavigate the globe. Wander through three connected airplane hangars and visit a control tower with a great view of Lake Hood, the world’s largest and busiest seaplane base, where you can watch floatplanes come and go.
