Celebrating 250 Years of Heritage

Since our founding in 1873, Holland America has served as a vital link between continents, carrying generations across the Atlantic to America. When our first ship, Rotterdam, sailed into New York Harbor, it marked the beginning of a transatlantic tradition that has shaped both our company and our country.

A Shared History

As America nears its 250th anniversary, Holland America reflects on its 150+ years of hope-filled voyages, wartime service, and modern cruising that embody the nation’s spirit of courage and resilience. Through partnerships with iconic heritage brands, we create experiences rooted in tradition and connection, with more partners announced throughout this momentous year.

Jefferson’s Bourbon: Every Bottle Tells a Story

Rooted in exploration, innovation, and American craftsmanship, Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon is defined by discovery. Select barrels travel the world’s oceans aboard Holland America ships, shaped by motion, climate, and time at sea — until the ocean becomes an ingredient, and each bottle carries a unique tribute to the enduring spirit of American exploration.

1997

Jefferson’s Bourbon is founded in Kentucky by Trey Zoeller and his father, Chet Zoeller, blending deep bourbon heritage with an experimental spirit rooted in American ingenuity.

2008

While aboard a ship, Trey Zoeller imagines what constant motion, sea air, and global travel might do to aging bourbon — reviving a centuries‑old connection between whiskey and the sea.

2012

The first release of Jefferson’s Ocean debuts, sending barrels around the world and allowing nature — not warehouses — to shape the final expression.

2015

What began as a single‑barrel experiment becomes a defining part of Jefferson’s identity, with each voyage creating a bourbon shaped by its journey across the globe.

2021

Jefferson’s Ocean gains national recognition as one of the best‑selling super‑premium bourbons in the U.S., celebrated for its originality and respect for tradition.
