The Golden Age of travel revolved around Pan Am's Clipper "flying boats," connecting well-traveled guests to other luxury means of transportation for an extended experience. To explore Antigua's colorful past through this lens, you are accompanied by a knowledgeable guide and a historian or former Pan Am Station Manager.
Travel from the island's quaint capital, St John's, through Antigua's tropical heartland and picturesque villages. View the old US Air Force base en route to a vantage point overlooking the old Coolidge Airport runway, where Pan Am flew into and out of Antigua beginning in the 1940s.
You'll also see English Harbour, with its famed UNESCO World Heritage Site Nelson's Dockyard. Built in 1725, Nelson's Dockyard served as the base for the English naval squadron patrolling the West Indies. As you enter this historic park, the only working Georgian dockyard in the world, you are met by your National Park's guide who leads you on a short, informative walking tour through the Dockyard. Note its beautifully restored buildings, detailed plaques, and many points of interest.
Afterward, enjoy some free time to explore the Dockyard, museum, art gallery, gift shop, and boutiques.
From Shirley Heights Lookout, take in the commanding view of the Atlantic Ocean, Nelson's Dockyard, and the old English Harbour signal station, which warned of approaching enemy ships.
Return to St John's with your guide.
