Begin with a drive along the east coast, passing orange and lemon groves, vineyards and gnarled olive trees whose scents hang in the air.
A stupendous acropolis dominates the town of Lindos and the curved bay below. Walk up to the Acropolis or hire a donkey (at your own expense) to take you part of the way up. At the top, the remains of many ancient civilizations are found — the 4th-century BC Doric Temple of Athena Lindia, a double-winged portico, a Byzantine church, and the fortifications of the Knights. At the foot of the Acropolis is St Paul's Bay, where the Apostle Paul landed in AD 51. Far below, whitewashed houses cluster around the narrow streets.
En route back to Rhodes town, you'll stop at a pottery factory to watch a demonstration of how ceramics are made.
Notes:
Tour requires considerable walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, gravel, grass, and more than 250 steps. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as the walk is very steep and slippery. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
