Embark on an unforgettable journey across the Egyptian desert from Alexandria to Cairo.
After approximately three hours of travel, you'll arrive at one of the world's most iconic sites—the Pyramids of Giza. These majestic monuments rise dramatically from the desert, a testament to ancient engineering and human determination. The Great Pyramid of Cheops, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, stands as a masterpiece of architecture, comprised of around 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing an impressive 2½ tons. Constructed over 4,000 years ago, around 2000 BC, their scale and precision continue to inspire awe.
Next, marvel at the enigmatic Sphinx, a symbol of mystery and power. With the face of a man and the body of a lion, this colossal sculpture, carved from natural limestone, stretches 190 feet long and 66 feet tall. Its timeless gaze, directed toward the rising sun, has fascinated travelers and scholars alike for centuries.
After exploring these wonders, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant near the pyramids, where you can relax and take in the surroundings before your comfortable motorcoach journey back to Alexandria.
Notes:
Service animals, including dogs, are not permitted at the Pyramids. Travel time to Cairo is approximately 3 to 3½ hours each way. Motorcoaches are required to travel in a police-escorted convoy and may be subject to security delays; your patience is appreciated. Time permitting, participants may have the opportunity to enter the Cheops Pyramid independently (at your own expense; approximately US$10); however, this is not advisable for individuals with claustrophobia or heart and respiratory conditions, as the interior is hot and stuffy, requiring visitors to bend and crouch at times. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, stones, inclines, gravel, sand, and many steps. Photography/video is not permitted inside the Pyramids of Giza. Wear comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Modest attire is recommended; knees, shoulders, and midriffs must be covered. Tight-fitting, transparent, or translucent clothing is not advisable. Please err on the side of conservatism with your attire. Minimum age is 6 years.
