A comfortable motorcoach whisks you from the ship to a newly-opened ruins of Ake. This late pre-Classic period Mayan City remained influential until the post-Classic period, when the Spaniards arrived. It was the site of a 16th-century battle between the Mayans and Francesco de Montejo — patriarch of the Spanish family that conquered and built Merida. Ake's ruins merge two worlds — Mayan Mexico and a Spanish colony.
Head into the heart of nature with a wonderful lazy river tube float, an open-air cave swim, and cavern snorkeling in the crystal clear, freshwater of a cenote water system. Cenotes are deep, water-filled sinkholes in limestone — natural pools filled by rain and water from underground rivers. They often feature amazing stalactites and stalagmites, and are a stunning snorkeling destination.
A tasty Mexican-Mayan lunch is served at a local restaurant.
