Roman soldiers were paid with salt, giving rise to the word "salary." More than 2,500 years ago, Xcambo was an important salt production and trading center for all of Mesoamerica, and it means either "the place where trading is done" or "heavenly crocodile" — you choose!
Artifacts found here indicate the Maya were trading with people from thousands of miles away. Climb the ruins to learn about several very important buildings designed to mark the solstice and the equinox.
Next, find some true Mexican relaxation on Corona Beach. Chill in a lounge chair under the shade of a small palapa. Enjoy a one-hour domestic open bar with chips and salsa, and sway to the gentle rhythms of tropical music. Join in the games, dancing, and entertainment if you wish.
