Holland America and its partner Daelmans Stroopwafels — two iconic Dutch brands both with over a century of heritage — are bringing a taste of tradition to sea with Stroopwafel-inspired delights served morning, noon, and night. For the unfamiliar, “stroop” is pronounced like “rope,” and “wafel” sounds exactly as expected — but the flavor of this crunchy, sweet treat is anything but.

A Stroopwafel (“syrup waffle”) is a traditional Dutch cookie made from two thin layers of baked dough filled with caramel syrup. Dating back to 18th-century Dutch bakers, who used leftovers to create these delicacies, Stroopwafels are often enjoyed by placing them atop a warm cup of coffee or tea, where the syrup softens and the flavors intensify.
