Veendam’s Penguin Encounter
Here are some pictures from the Veendam during our special cruise to Antarctica from January 6th to the 23rd of 2012. We were lucky, and had an extra day in Antarctica due to some unexpected storms. Five of these pictures were taken in Antarctica, while the picture of the Rockhopper penguin was in the Falklands, where we experienced summer weather with temperatures of 67 degrees. — Ruud van Deventer

I was on that cruise and these are wonderful pictures. I wish I had the telephoto lens Ruud had. GREAT shots.
Penguins are my favorite animals–saw them by the hundreds on the hatching grounds with their young chicks.Such fascinating, hardy animals and so tame you would wish to have them as pets.
