Sailaway From the Port of Rotterdam

The Port of Rotterdam is one of our favorites. Perhaps it’s because it’s in the homeland of our founding, or perhaps it’s because we just love that it’s the homeport of ms Rotterdam. How many ships can say they are based out of their namesake? We have a lasting relationship with the Port of Rotterdam. In fact, to celebrate our 140th Anniversary they created a walking tour between ss Rotterdam and the Hotel New York along the Wilhelminapier and Katendrecht with 13 stops along the way.

We get many photos of our ships departing Rotterdam, and here are some of our favorites from three HAL fans.

Former ms Rotterdam chief officer and current pilot Marijn van Hoorn captured these stunning photos of the ship departing from the port. He snapped the shots while piloting an inbound vessel into the Port of Rotterdam. According to Marijn, “She’s still a beauty!”

Holland America Line fan Aad Hoogesteger recently went to the top of the Euromast to snap these images of Rotterdam departing the Port of Rotterdam. The Euromast originally was 100 meters tall, but in 1970 a new tower was placed on top raising the Euromast to 185 meters, making it the highest observatory tower of the Netherlands. On the “Panoramic Rotterdam and Harbor Cruise” guests can view Euromast from the water.

Bert Lamers wrote: Although I see the ‘Rotterdam’ coming into the port of Rotterdam almost every week, I just love to see her coming in and out. And all the time I keep photographing her. But nowadays I try to make special photographs like this one of the ship with the Erasmusbridge.

Thanks to all of our fans who continue to go out to bid farewell to our ships as they set sail from the Port of Rotterdam. If you have photos you’d like to share from ship departures, send them to info@hollandamericablog.com.
