Cruise Diary: Feb. 10, Copper Canyon Excursion

Topolobampo, Mexico

It was a very early morning rise — 3:30 a.m. — to see one of the highlights of the cruise: The Copper Canyon.

Breakfast buffet was provided in the dining room at 4:30 a.m., which was a fantastic starter of a long day ahead.

After a two-hour bus ride we could board the Copper Canyon Train for the six-hour ride.

And what a ride it was. Fantastic views all the way along. Climbing sometimes three levels through tunnels and over bridges.

After our arrival at Copper Canyon we were taken to a restaurant with magnificent view over the canyons.

Outside was an Indian dance show performed.

Then we were the only few who decided to go a couple of hundred rocky stone steps down to see where the Indians live.

All beautiful things come to an end and we had to board the train for the six-hour return ride.

It was around 10 p.m. when we got back at the ship’s dockside, where an unexpected surprise was waiting for us.

On the pier, the hotel manager and his senior staff were awaiting our tour, providing us all with a glass of champagne.

Welcome back on board!

And if that was not enough, special for the 300 guest on the tour, the Lido was opened and provided us with some marvelous food.

It’s good to be on Zaandam , thanks all for the so warm welcome on board .

The pictures will give an impression what we have seen on the tour to Copper Canyon.

Whow, that has brought back memories. I was looking to see where we called into on our cruise in 2007 and came across this post. I believe we may have have been on the first cruise to achieve this journey on a single day, it was an unbelievable experience with the most magic ending after a grueling day which started at 3.00am and ended at 11.00pm being greeted by the ships company with glasses of champagne hot towels and the opportunity to get something to eat. We hit the bed!
Thank you so much for reviving the memory. It appears this is no longer an option on a cruise!
