Crew Members Move Aboard Their New Home

On June 12 the Nieuw Amsterdam’s crew made the transition from hotels and apartments to the ship where many of the crew will live for the next couple of months during their assignments.

The crew started arriving to the ship at 8:45a.m., with the first group being the loading team. Many of the loading team has been in Venice for as much as two months prior to the move on board the ship. Over the next two weeks some 700 crew members will join the Nieuw Amsterdam prior to the first sailing on July 4.

Are all of these crew members experienced with HAL? I wonder how many new crew members there will be, and what positions do the newest members take, to learn the ropes?

    Hi Suzanne,

As with every new ship launch, HAL puts together the perfect blend of current HAL officers and crew and new crew members. The senior officers tend to be familiar faces, and they also bring team members with them that they work well with and who are experienced. But it’s always nice to get new faces on board. There are 929 total crew members. Thanks for reading the blog and commenting. We appreciate it!
