Dark and dangerous Glasgow is long gone; today, it's a brilliant city of the Arts, with magnificent architecture around every corner. Even so, it is still possible to reach back in time, into a noir era when Glasgow was best known for its murders, mayhem and mysteries.
This 1½-hour walk with a local guide introduces you to a city built by industry, shaped by its working class, and controlled by organized crime gangs operating out of ice-cream vans. It's an exciting and edgy walk exploring centuries-old, decades-old, and even present-day unsolved murders, tales of notorious inmates, corruption, power, and even Glasgow's foundations as a city built on the back of slavery.
Visit Glasgow Cathedral and its Necropolis (the City of the Dead). Learn about the Blackfriars precinct and the shenanigans that took place at the Tolbooth Prison. See the River Clyde — once a repository for those who crossed the Boss — and learn about Glasgow's appalling links to the slave trade. Dark becomes light as you discover a different, fascinating, and unnerving side to this iconic city.
