Join us for an unforgettable journey through some of Hawai‘i Island’s most iconic natural and cultural treasures. Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Hilo Port to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, home to Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes on Earth. This extraordinary park was designated an International Biosphere Reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its unique geology, biodiversity, and cultural significance.
During your visit, you’ll explore the legendary Halema?uma?u Crater, revered in Hawaiian tradition as the home of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes. At the Kilauea Visitor Information Center, you’ll have the chance to learn about the volcano’s history, current activity, and the powerful natural forces that continue to shape the island. You’ll also witness the park’s famous steam vents, where heat from deep within the earth escapes dramatically into the air.
As we make our way back toward Hilo, your knowledgeable guide will share stories and insights while driving along the historic Hilo Walk of Fame, a stretch lined with majestic banyan trees planted by visiting celebrities, dignitaries, and world figures.
Your next stop is the serene and beautifully landscaped Lili?uokalani Gardens, the largest ornamental Japanese garden outside of Japan. Stroll through peaceful pathways, traditional bridges, koi ponds, and meticulously maintained greenery that reflect Hawai‘i’s deep cultural ties to Japan.
From the gardens, we’ll visit the nearby lava rock beach overlooking Hilo Bay, where you may have the chance to see Hawaiian green sea turtles basking on the warm rocks—an unforgettable sight and a favorite moment for many visitors.
This tour offers a perfect blend of natural wonder, cultural heritage, and scenic beauty—an experience that truly captures the spirit of Hilo.
Notes:
You will not see molten lava on this tour. Wear closed-toe (mandatory) shoes; bring a sweater or jacket. Kilauea is an active volcano and erupts frequently; participate at your own risk.
