Here's an unforgettable journey on foot through the majestic Tongass National Forest — the world's largest temperate rainforest. The endemic ecosystem here is home to muskeg bogs, old-growth spruce trees with sprawling canopies, fungi, and lichens.
This two-hour guided hike is led by a local guide, passionate about Sitka's natural environment and cultural legacy. Follow well-maintained trails teeming with diverse plant and animal life. Spot soaring bald eagles and, seasonally, see salmon on their spawning journey in crystal-clear streams.
Savor authentic Alaskan salmon jerky and a variety of snacks amid the serene backdrop of the rainforest. You'll forage along the route, picking and tasting edible wild berries with guidance from knowledgeable local experts.
Learn about the Tlingits' traditional uses of the land, which continue today.
Return to Sitka. Time permitting, guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.
