Come explore the beautiful Bay of Islands, charted by Captain James Cook in the late 1700s.
The local mountain chain you'll see here is part of the Appalachian Mountains that start in the southern USA and extend this far north. These rocks are more than a billion years old.
Relatively new (but still somewhat senior) coastal communities will welcome you — Little Port, Lark Harbour, John's Beach and York Harbour. Bottle Cove was a French fishing station in the early 16th century, while Basque fishermen used Governors Island from the early 1500s. This bay has deep water, steep wood-covered hills, and barren, lofty peaks.
There will be scenic photo opportunities and a ‘church social’ style refreshment stop with the friendly locals of Lark Harbour will be the highlight of the excursion. Here, there will be an opportunity to shop for souvenirs at the local craft tables in the hall.
Notes:
Bring cash for souvenir shopping from a small selection of local crafts at the refreshment stop; debit and credit cards are not accepted. Lightweight collapsible wheelchairs and rollators can be accommodated on this tour. Guest must be able to board coach unassisted, and navigate the 5 stairs into the Church Hall. Scooters can not be accommodated on this tour. The light lunch comprises of a variety of finger sandwiches and home-baked goods, all made by the Anglican Church Ladies Auxiliary. They are a small church group with limited resources. Therefore we cannot accommodate all dietary restrictions. Vegetarian or gluten free MAY be able to be accommodate, please advise the onboard Shore Excursion team as soon as possible.
