Delve into Nagasaki's past and its vibrant traditions with traditional Japanese cuisine and entertainment.
You're headed to Dejima — an artificial island of immense historical significance. Originally constructed in the 17th century, Dejima served as the sole window to the outside world during Japan's Isolationism period. It was a hub of cultural and commercial exchange with the Dutch — the only Westerners allowed to trade with Japan at the time. As you walk through Dejima, you'll discover meticulously restored buildings and exhibits that bring this fascinating history to life.
Enjoy lunch in Nagasaki — a Japanese meal with a fusion of Pacific Rim influences.
After lunch, you'll be entertained by a captivating performance by geisha from the Nagasaki Kenban. The latter is an organization dedicated to preserving the traditional arts of geisha, including dance and music. The graceful dances and elegant presence of the geisha offer a rare glimpse into an art form that has been cherished in Japan for centuries and is enjoying a cultural revival. Certainly, it provides a deeper understanding of Nagasaki's special place in Japan's history.
