Answer: With advance notice we can arrange for guests who require lift transportation to be assigned to rail cars and motorcoaches with lifts. The maximum weight of the mobility device, including the guest, cannot exceed 500 lbs. on lifts.
Holland America Line strongly recommends that all personal electric mobility equipment meets the following criteria:
Width: 23” maximum
Length: 40” maximum
Weight: 100 lbs. maximum without battery
Batteries: Must be Gel or Dry Cell or AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) only
For safety reasons, guests using a scooter should be aware they will need to transfer to a seat on the coach from the lift and will have their scooter stored in the luggage bay of the coach. Team members are not allowed to lift items weighing in excess of 50lbs individually due to potential injury. If you are traveling with a scooter in excess of 100 lbs. our team members will not be able to stow the scooter in the luggage bay; we recommend you make arrangements to travel with a light weight collapsable scooter for this purpose. If a scooter is longer than 40” the guest will be required to transfer to a wheelchair to be lifted to the coach or rail car due to the size of the lift platform. Guests must be able to transfer themselves or have a capable traveling companion to assist in the transfer. If you require push assistance throughout your tour you must travel with a companion who is able to provide this level of assistance as our team members are not able to provide this service. While many hotel properties can provide a wheelchair to be used for the lift process we are not able to provide a wheelchair for use throughout your tour. If you will require regular use of a wheelchair, we recommend that you bring your own wheelchair with you. You may also make advance rental arrangements prior to your cruisetour and have a wheelchair delivered directly to the hotel property at the start of your tour for use through the duration of your cruisetour.
