This accessible French Rivera shore excursion acquaints you with the village of La Turbie, known for its spectacular Tropaeum Alpium monument and its mixture of Medieval, Classical and Baroque architecture.
Meet your knowledgeable guide and accessible van. Set out on a beautiful scenic drive along the famous Corniche road towards Mount Boron. Topping out at 500 feet above sea level, the Mount provides an excellent view of Nice and the Bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer. Carob and wild olive trees cling tenaciously to its rocky sides.
Continue to the medieval village of La Turbie, perched 3,770 feet above the Mediterranean. See the spectacular Tropaeum Alpium -- the 6 BC victory monument built by the Romans for Caesar Augustus to celebrate his decisive victory over the ancient alpine tribes. The remains of the towering monument reveal a fascinating history and structure.
Follow your guide on a short walking/rolling tour of La Turbie's Old Town. The city has preserved the charm of its glorious past. See the gate of the medieval defense walls, old stone houses, vaulted passageways, beautiful fountains, charming cafés, and colorful flowers.
Notes:
This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair. The tour operator suggests you bring a companion to assist, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs. An accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift or ramp is used for transportation. The number of accessible vehicles available is extremely limited; make your accessible shore excursion reservations as far in advance as possible. Lunch is not included. If appropriate (i.e., on long-duration tours), you will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour.
