Nestled at the foot of the cliffs of Tamadaba deep within the Agaete Valley along roads travelled since ancient times under the dappled shade of ancient Canarian pines, you’ll find a precious plot of land called the Finca La Laja, famous for its coffee, oranges and wine. Explore the winery Los Berrazales for a wine tasting and "mojo" workshop on this four-hour tour that delves into the culinary traditions of the region.
A scenic 40-minute motorcoach ride brings you to the base of the Tamadaba cliffs in the foothills of the Agaete Valley.
Your destination is La Laja Farm, known for its vineyards, orange orchards and coffee plantations. A family-run business, the Lugo-Jorge family has worked the land here for five generations and more than 150 years. Their winery is based on traditional cultivation of the lístan negro grape and produces red, white and rosé wines.
Your host will show you around the property, which spreads across the valley floor fragrant with the smell of perfumed fruits warmed by the sun, and will tell you about the wines produced in the area. You’ll be introduced to the unique world of canary wines, which grow from rich, volcanic soil, giving its grapes a very distinctive flavor and producing wines that are elegant and light. The family generates approximately 20,000 bottles of award-winning wines under the label Los Berrazales.
On a pretty terrace, your host will offer a selection of tasty nibbles to accompany a sampling of the vintages the family so proudly produces. When you sip and savor the wines, you are experiencing more than a flavor; it's the passion in the product.
No visitor can leave Gran Canaria without tasting the island’s famous green and red traditional Spanish sauces, or mojos. Here you’ll attend a hands-on mojo workshop to learn the family recipe and the preparation techniques of traditional Canarian sauces so that you can prepare the flavors of the islands at home to the delight of your friends and family.
At the end of this lovely gastronomic adventure, reboard the motorcoach and begin the journey back to port. You’ll stop for a short photo opportunity at Puerto de las Nieves (Harbor of Snow), a quaint little fishing village on the north coast of Gran Canaria studded with whitewashed houses surrounded by towering mountains and the deep azure sea. Return to your waiting ship via a scenic route.
