Embark on a thrilling journey by boat to navigate the vast expanse of Ikerssuaq Fjord, weaving through drifting icebergs to reach the awe-inspiring Twin Glacier. At this local gem, step ashore and physically connect with Greenland's ice cap.
This remarkable site also serves as a living testament to the Earth's transformation. Exposed rock bears the unmistakable signs of glacial retreat over recent decades. In the 1980s, the Twin Glacier actively calved ice into the fjord; today, the ice separates on land, unveiling a compelling story of nature's evolution. Amid this striking landscape, you'll find yourself dwarfed by the colossal ice mass, evoking a profound sense of both wonder and humility.
Notes:
Participants must be in good physical condition with a moderate level of fitness. The hike from the boat to the ice is approximately 400 yards each way -- a minimum of one hour of walking. Wear sturdy non-skid hiking shoes. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, rocks, sand, and a steep incline to the glacier face. Care is required. Participants not wishing to examine the glacier can stay on the boat. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf.
