A short panoramic drive through the city of Alicante reveals some of its better-known landmarks.
Watch for the Paseo de la Explanada de España -- a mosaic marble avenue reminiscent of sea waves -- and Luceros Square, where an impressive fountain dominates with series of horse sculptures.
Head out of town on the road to Elche and its huge park of palm trees, which is quite unique at this latitude. This vast collection of palms is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the municipal park will introduce you to the world of plants and specifically to the palms of the area.
Don't miss the Huerto del Cura -- an exotic garden that contains specimens of rare varieties of palm. The garden boasts great botanical diversity and is the ideal place to stroll around and see its luxuriant plants. The fountains and the main lake placed right at the heart of the park are inspired by Arabian architectural styles, since this area was occupied for centuries by the Muslims. Enjoy a tasting of local specialties straight from the garden, followed by some free time to admire the park on your own.
After this interesting visit, you will head back to Alicante where the ship is docked.
