Your adventure begins with a comfortable drive from Ushuaia into the stunning Tierra del Fuego Mountain range. As you leave the city behind, you’ll travel through the picturesque Olivia River Valley, passing sawmills, beaver dams, dense forests, and vast peat bogs—each offering a glimpse into the region’s natural and cultural landscape.
As the motorcoach ascends into the Andes Mountains, enjoy sweeping panoramic views. A highlight of the journey is a stop at Garibaldi Pass, where you’ll step out to admire the breathtaking scenery. From this elevated viewpoint, take in the dramatic sight of Lake Escondido nestled far below, and in the distance, the shimmering expanse of Lake Fagnano.
Next, you’ll visit a local winter sports center, where a warm and inviting snack experience awaits. Savor a traditional Argentinian lamb empanada, along with a buffet of regional finger foods including sandwiches, pastries, quince jelly pie, and a small cupcake. Choose from a variety of beverages such as juice, wine, hot chocolate, tea, or the local favorite—mountaineer coffee, flavored with sugar, orange peel, and liqueur.
Your final stop is back in Ushuaia at the Old Prison Museum, located in the city’s historic former penitentiary. This self-guided visit allows you to explore restored cellblocks and learn about the lives of Argentina’s most infamous inmates. The museum also features exhibits on Ushuaia’s early settlers, maritime heritage, and Antarctic exploration.
Notes:
Please dress warmly in layers for this tour. Weather conditions in the Andes can be unpredictable, so we recommend wearing waterproof and windproof outerwear. Don’t forget to bring gloves, a warm hat, and a scarf to ensure your comfort throughout the journey.
