Scenic splendor awaits you at the end of the world on this easy half-day excursion. Your adventure begins with a short ride by bus from the pier to the railway station.
Step aboard a vintage railcar (see notes below) of the world’s southernmost railway for an incomparable journey winding through the beautiful natural landmarks of Tierra del Fuego National Park. Built to bring lumber from the surrounding forests to Ushuaia, the Southern Fuegian Railway or the End of the World Train now serves as a heritage railway experience. It is popular with residents and visitors alike. On board the simple railcar, you’ll cross the Pipo River and head into its sylvan valley, and then enter the National Park itself. You have about 45 minutes to take in the great interplay of waterfalls, forests, mountains and rivers as your train chugs along the historical track, stopping along the way so that you can take some photos.
Take advantage of a chance to shop for souvenirs at the train station.
Next, a short drive will bring you to Ensenada Bay for stupendous views of the Beagle Channel. Named after the ship that carried English naturalist Charles Darwin, the channel boasts towering snow-capped mountains. The scenery includes a collection of lovely island gems.
During your return to the ship in Ushuaia by motorcoach, you’ll learn many interesting facts about this extraordinary part of the world.
Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
Notes:
The vintage railcar has limited space and legroom; these small carriages may not be suitable for guests seeking extra room. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Available only on select sailings. Tour does not operate on holidays.
