Experience one of the Falkland Islands' most extraordinary wildlife encounters on this exclusive journey to Bleaker Island, home to a thriving colony of Southern Rockhopper Penguins.
Your adventure begins with a transfer to Stanley's local airport, where you'll board a FIGAS (Falkland Islands Government Air Service) aircraft for a scenic flight across the Falklands. Flying in a small island aircraft offers a unique perspective of the archipelago's dramatic coastline, rolling landscapes, and remote settlements. The experience is made even more memorable with landing on a traditional grass airstrip, giving you a true taste of life in the Falkland Islands.
Upon arrival at Bleaker Island, continue by 4x4 vehicle through the island's rugged terrain to reach the Rockhopper Penguin colony. Here, you'll have the opportunity to observe these charismatic penguins in their natural habitat. Famous for their distinctive yellow crests and energetic personalities, Southern Rockhopper Penguins are known for scaling steep cliffs and hopping effortlessly between rocks, creating an unforgettable wildlife spectacle.
Bleaker Island supports up to 800 breeding pairs of Southern Rockhopper Penguins, providing exceptional viewing and photography opportunities. Your time on the island allows you to watch the colony's daily activities while taking in the stunning scenery of this remote and unspoiled environment.
Before returning, relax with homemade cookies and a hot beverage while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. You will then make your way back to the airstrip for your return FIGAS flight to Stanley and transfer back to the pier.
Important notes:
This excursion combines air travel, a 4x4 transfer, and time spent on uneven natural terrain near the penguin colony. Guests should be comfortable walking short distances over potentially uneven ground and navigating outdoor conditions independently. Walking devices are not permitted on this tour. Weather changes throughout the day, we suggest layered clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and hat and gloves. Wildlife sightings, including penguins, are common but cannot be guaranteed. Minimum age is 8 years.
