Heading out of the city and meeting up with the main highway, you will first drive along the shores of Lake Llanquihue and pass through the village of Ensenada. As you circle the lake, the scenery becomes more beautiful with each mile -- lush green countryside, oxen-plowed fields, and weather-beaten clapboard barns and churches.
Arrive at Lake Todos los Santos for a 45-minute boat trip over the lake.
Continuing to the Petrohué Rapids, you'll see a gleaming succession of blue rapids against a backdrop of mountains, including the nearby Osorno Volcano. Here, you will stop for approximately 30 minutes to walk the pathways and trails, taking in the gorgeous views of the rapids, waterfalls, mountains and natural wilderness.
Lunch is served in the Puerto Varas area; then, you will have time to discover the city of Puerto Varas and its handicraft market .
Notes:
It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion; outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Although only a few horse flies live near this river, wear light-colored clothing to avoid attracting them. Bring insect repellent. On days with only eight hours in port, the tour program will be shortened by 30 minutes.
