This excursion showcases the wild nature of northern Patagonia. In this area, the Andes Mountain Range sinks into the ocean, creating dozens of small lakes and rivers.
Your excursion begins with a short drive from Puerto Chacabuco to Lake Los Palos. A short briefing will be given; then, steer your kayak along the lake’s western shore northward to the Tabo River, which feeds the lake. This is an area of calm, crystalline waters. Paddle upstream to see the varied endemic vegetation and typical Patagonian birds that inhabit this area -- kingfishers, eagles, several types of ducks, and caiquenes.
Stop for a short walk into the woods, then continue to a small island planted with native vegetation. Rest a while and enjoy a light snack before returning to the starting point.
Notes:
Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. The width of the kayak cockpit is only 17 inches -- for your comfort, please consider this before booking the tour. Life vest and rain cape provided. Dress comfortably for sunny days: shorts, gym shoes or sandals, a light shirt or t-shirt, a hat or cap; for rainy weather: long trousers, gym shoes or light boots, and a fleece jacket. Bring a cap, sunscreen, sunglasses and a change of clothes. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Participants must know how to swim. Minimum age is 12 years.
