Day 1 (L/D)
Take a panoramic drive through Manaus before a 40-minute boat transfer to the Amazon Ecopark Jungle Lodge. This facility began life as a scientific and educational property, created by private initiative in 1991. It opened its doors to the public as an ecotourism lodge in 1995. Although no longer a scientific property, this riverside resort provides a platform from which you can experience the beauty of the rain forest and learn about jungle life. Several streams of clear water run through the area, and more than six miles of jungle trails, some with uncatalogued species, natural savannahs and creeks, enable you to explore the jungle and observe orchids and giant trees.
The staff will make you feel at home in the heart of the Amazon jungle. The food consists mainly of local products prepared by the chef on location. Meats, fish and vegetables offer something for every palate. Plenty of tasty tropical fruits are served.
After lunch, you will visit a Native community and return to the lodge for some free time before dinner.
Tonight, you’ll go on a canoe ride to search for small alligators. Alligators are easily spotted because their eyes shine like little red lights. Your guide will try to catch a small alligator with his hands and bring it onto the canoe, and a brief explanation of their habitat follows. Sometimes not all the canoes are lucky enough to land an alligator, but one of the alligators will be taken to the floating pier so everyone can touch it and take photos. The alligator will be safely released back into the river afterward, none the worse for wear.
Day 2 (B/L)
After breakfast, learn more about jungle life and lore as you interact with your surroundings. A jungle recognition tour offers a brief introduction to jungle survival techniques and Amazonian flora and fauna.
You will also visit some local residents' homes and learn about jungle life's traditions. Return to the lodge for lunch; then, transfer back to Manaus by boat.
Cancellation Policy:
60 Days prior to arrival in the excursion port. This excursion is non-refundable within 60 days of arrival into the excursion port. Any cancellations made after this deadline will be subject to full payment of the tour. This will include if a guest cancels their voyage within 60 days of arrival into the excursion port.
Notes:
Please be advised that accommodation is in a three-star lodge with simple, rustic rooms and amenities. Your guides will do their best to speak English, but please keep in mind that the limited tourism infrastructure of Manaus and the Amazon is part of the area’s charm, and bear with any language difficulties he/she may encounter. Buses and other forms of transportation may be somewhat basic compared to those offered in some other ports of call. This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Manaus. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Due to seasonal rains, a varied amount of walking may be required. Bring insect repellent, shampoo, conditioner, a hat and light clothing. A flashlight may also be useful for the alligator tour. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Minimum age is 5 years. Cancellations fees start 45 days prior to the call date at Manaus.
