The Paracas National Reserve is a stunning ecological reserve located in the coastal desert. Your day involves a visit to the interpretive site to learn about all the different species protected in this area -- a paradise for geologists.
You'll stop at Red Beach -- a fascinating part of the National Reserve. It is the only beach with red sand, and numerous seabirds populate its shoreline. The many different desert landscapes here include Supay Beach, noted for its superb cliffs formed during the Eocene Period. Note the sequential horizontal striations and the marine sediment layers holding prehistoric fossils.
For a stunning contrast, you will visit Vineyard 1615, located in the province of Pisco. The vineyard here dates back to the 17th century. A particularly fine climate lends excellent terroir characteristics of flavor and fragrance to the grapes. The use of technology in the management and development of vineyards ensures premium pisco grapes for producing Pisco wine.
After a short, guided visit, enjoy a local beverage made with Pisco.
Notes:
The roads throughout the Paracas National Reserve are unpaved and can be bumpy. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations.
