A German-speaking guide leads this tour (or a guide with a German interpreter). A limited number of German guides and interpreters are available in this port; book early to avoid disappointment. This is not a bilingual tour; shore excursions guided in English are available on the Holland America Line website.
You'll drive through the northern residential areas of Buenos Aires to San Isidro -- a colonial and aristocratic suburb -- to visit the market and the cathedral.
Continue your journey to El Tigre -- another charming suburb of Buenos Aires -- where numerous holiday houses, yacht marinas and rowing clubs attract locals on the weekends. With its rivers, streams and green islands, the Tigre Delta is one of Argentina's most attractive areas. For more than 100 years, channels of the Tigre Delta have been a favorite summer gateway for Porteños (inhabitants of Buenos Aires).
Take a leisurely, one-hour ride on a comfortable riverboat along the waterways and among the Delta Islands. These were formed by the continuous sedimentation of the Paraná River, which gives the river and its estuary a peculiar brownish-red color.
Returning by coach to Buenos Aires, you'll stop in the beautiful Recoleta district, where you will have free time to purchase lunch (at your own expense). Visit designer shops, cafés, shopping centers and the cemetery if you wish.
Back in central Buenos Aires, travel by motorcoach along the famous Avenida 9 de Julio, past the Colon Theatre via Plaza de Mayo, and on to the district of La Boca. Stroll through the El Caminito market area, where many street vendors offer goods for sale, or watch tango dancers while they practice.
Notes:
The riverboat is not exclusive to Holland America Line guests. Meals are not included.
