A German-speaking guide leads this tour (or a guide with a German interpreter). A limited number of German guides and interpreters are available in this port; book early to avoid disappointment. This is not a bilingual tour; shore excursions guided in English are available on the Holland America Line website.
Together with your German-speaking local guide, you will drive from the cruise terminal to Recoleta -- the city's most up-market neighborhood with green parks, street cafés and a famous cemetery.
At the Recoleta Cemetery, a walking tour takes you past countless mausoleums to the inconspicuous tomb of Evita Peron.
Then, you'll walk along Alvear Avenue, passing some of the most magnificent palaces in Buenos Aires. Once the residences of Argentina's landowners, many of the buildings now house the most luxurious hotels in South America, as well as several embassies.
Cross the Avenida 9 de Julio -- the widest boulevard in the world -- to see the Obelisk and the Colón Theatre.
You will stroll down Arroyo Street, with its famous art galleries and shops. Arriving at Plaza San Martin, admire the impressive statue of Argentina's national hero and liberator, General San Martin. German sculptor Gustaf Eberlein designed the statue. The square, originally used as a bullring, is surrounded by architectural gems such as the Kavanagh Building and the Plaza Hotel, built in 1909 by the German architect Alfred Zucker (also famous for St Patrick's Cathedral in New York City). Return by coach to the pier. Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore the pedestrian/shopping zone of Florida Street independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.

No headsets included. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Walking distance is approximately 1 to 1 ½ mile. Expect traffic delays in the port area due to an ongoing construction project.
