Don't miss this tour that showcases Buenos Aires' highlights and its tango culture brilliantly. As you travel through Plaza de Mayo and the surrounding area, watch for the Casa Rosada Government Palace, the historic Town Hall, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Bank of Argentina.
Pass the Obelisk and the Plaza de la República, situated in the heart of the city. Avenida 9 de Julio and Avenida Corrientes intersect here -- two of Buenos Aire's main thoroughfares.
You will pass the Colón Opera House -- the cultural pride of Buenos Aires en route to the colorful La Boca neighborhood. La Boca was the first port in Buenos Aires and retains a strong Italian flavor. On Calle Caminito, many artisans, painters and tango dancers vie for the attention of passers-by.
Continue to San Telmo -- the oldest part of 'BA', passing the impressive Congress buildings. This area is also the place to witness the dance that is often referred to as 'a vertical expression of a horizontal desire'. Watch the tango performed by exceptional professionals who will leave you breathless with their skills, timing, passion and stamina as they share Argentina's most celebrated dance. Lunch and drinks and the tango are served exclusively for guests of Holland America Line.
Dance your way back to the coach and continue to Recoleta -- perhaps the city's most élite neighborhood. Palatial buildings, built at the turn of the 19th century by Argentina's powerful gentry, grace shady lanes and are surrounded by manicured gardens. The architectural style here is predominantly French, and many of the buildings today house luxury hotels and embassies. You will visit the Recoleta Cemetery where Evita Perón is buried and stroll the café-lined streets to the craft market.
Pass the beautiful gardens of Palermo before heading back to the pier.
