Depart the pier in Alter do Chão for a one-hour drive through the outer districts of Pindobal and Belterra.
Your destination is the Tapajós National Forest -- a section of the Brazilian Amazon that is a significant resource of tropical hardwoods. The protected Tapajós National Forest covers an area of 1,482,660 acres.
Leave your transportation to walk in the forest. A two-hour hike showcases the many species that grow here, and 'jungle men' accompany you to help you identify the flora and fauna. Brazil nut and rubber trees grow prodigiously here, among other fascinating species.
