Journey by motorcoach, traveling between the Pacific Ocean and the Cuyutlan Lagoon for 30 minutes; then, you'll head inland through fertile valleys and farmland to Colima -- the state capital.
Soon, you'll arrive in Alcaraces, where the Classic Rum Factory is located. The owners, the Pinto family, believe that this rich soil ensures premium sugar cane harvesting all year round, creating the primary ingredient to make the finest rum in Mexico. Take a guided tour of the factory showcasing each step of the rum-making process -- fermenting, distillation, typing, aging, bottling and packaging -- to achieve international recognition for top-quality rums. Taste the different types of rums and browse in the brand boutique.
Chiapa -- a charming and typical community nestled beneath the Fuego Volcano -- welcomes you. Almost 300 hundred years old and totally restored to its original glory, the Hacienda Chiapa (homestead) is a walk down memory lane. Explore its main rooms, kitchen, old chapel, and traditional porches and gardens. Admire the architectural style and learn the history behind this magnificent structure from the late 19th century. The hacienda was home of Griselda Alvarez -- the very first female State Governor in Mexico. A delicious regional lunch is served on a shaded patio of the hacienda.
At a family-owned rural artisan chocolate factory, enjoy a sweet and tasty visit to learn all about the chocolate and how it is made here with the Creolle Cacao grown locally.
