ARCAS is a Guatemalan non-profit formed in 1989 to save this country's precious natural heritage — especially its wildlife. Connect with nature while supporting vital wildlife conservation efforts on a visit to an ARCAS wildlife shelter, followed by a serene boat ride through one of Guatemala's most scenic natural landscapes, the Chiquimulilla Canal.
Meet a veterinary biologist at the animal rescue center for a guided visit. Discover how ARCAS has become a beacon of hope for endangered species affected by habitat loss, illegal trafficking, and environmental degradation. Learn how vital conservation initiatives are accomplished, from rescuing and rehabilitating endangered species to returning them to the wild. Meet some of the center's remarkable residents, including parrots, macaws, and monkeys, each with an individual story of survival and care.
Take a tranquil boat ride along the Chiquimulila Canal — a picturesque waterway in Guatemala's coastal wetlands. Wind through lush mangroves with an expert birdwatching guide and observe an array of bird species, including herons, egrets, and kingfishers. Learn about mangrove conservation efforts and how this special ecosystem plays a critical role in combating climate change, preventing coastal erosion, and providing refuge for countless species in its calm waters.
