Experience Mexico's past and present as you explore the ancient Mayan archaeological site of Izapa. Then, wander through Tapachula's town square on a sightseeing adventure that will educate and delight you.
From the pier, you'll journey approximately 45 minutes aboard an air-conditioned bus to the ancient ruins of Izapa. From its beginnings as a small village around 1500 BC and once foremost in the region for producing highly valued cacao, Izapa brought together several of Mesoamerica's ancient cultures.
Welcome to the culturally diverse city of Tapachula, whose history and heritage have been influenced not only by the Mayans, Mestizos and Spaniards but by German, Chinese, Japanese and French immigrants as well. Your guide introduces you to some of the city's highlights as you walk through the Town Square. You'll have time for shopping in local artisan shops for leather goods, ceramics and more.
You will also visit the City Museum to see photos and artifacts chronicling the city's history. Watch Maya dancers perform before you return to the pier.
